Time for education to get smarter about business

A few lessons from Benjamin Franklin

I like to surround myself with people smarter than me (Mrs. PSMailers Guy for starters) and if Founding Father Benjamin Franklin lived today, I would always leave an open seat next to me just for him. His accomplishments, wisdom and way with words are legendary. For example, he is quoted as saying: “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

To my blog readers in education, from elementary to higher ed, I’m sure you can also appreciate other investments that pay interest. Like advancements that save time, money and resources. When Franklin famously wrote “time is money” in an essay titled “Advice to a Young Tradesman” in 1748, PSMailers systems didn’t exist. But part of me likes to think he was foreshadowing these time- and labor-saving pressure-seal machines and self-mailer documents so well suited for communication by today’s educational institutions.

These all-in-one systems help schools often short on time, budget and resources with:

  • Critical back-to-school communication. There’s a lot of information to share with students as a new school year begins. PSMailers make light work of processing documents with critical news like hours of operation for offices, libraries, rec centers, food court and cafeterias, and bus schedules.
  • Vital fundraising and donor outreach. PSMailers can help streamline and increase the success of development efforts by quickly and easily producing materials for big events, from invitations and announcements to donor thank-you notes.
  • Bookstore and yearbook promotions. Personalized mail stands out in a tech-heavy world. Schools can use PSMailers to grab students’ attention throughout the year with bookstore coupons and coupon scan codes and yearbook sales promotions. I can just picture ol’ Ben in a hoodie from my alma mater!
  • Confidential mailings. PSMailers self-seal documents help schools process critical documents such as grade reports, payroll and other high-volume confidential mailings.

Although the adage “a penny saved is a penny earned” is widely misattributed to Mr. Franklin,* it’s still sage advice that goes hand-in-hand with the wise investment in a time-, money- and labor-saving PSMailers system for school offices. He did, however, say “Haste makes waste,” so I advise you not to wait!

Yours in Franklin fandom,

PSMailers Guy

PS. The actual quote is close, but not as quotable. According to the Franklin Institute, Franklin wrote in the 1737 Poor Richard’s Almanack: “A penny saved is two pence clear.”
