The Power of the Written Word

Power of the Printed word

The power of the written word

I tend to learn life’s greatest lessons late in life (as Mrs. PSMailers Guy likes to point out). But there are some exceptions. Moving offspring #2 into her apartment recently for another year of college, reminded me of the moment I learned an important lesson back in my own college days…

There I was lounging around our dilapidated off-campus house one afternoon. Empty beverage cans and pizza boxes littered about, completing the carefree décor. I lay on the couch shooting the breeze with housemates when one of them nonchalantly said, “Hey, I thought you had a class this afternoon.” I jumped up at this sudden realization and saw that I only had a few minutes to get to class. With no time to locate my backpack or even a notebook, I grabbed a pencil and the closest thing I could find to take notes on – a paper plate – and ran out the door. Oh, you laugh (my housemates, and classmates for that matter, sure did). But not only did I make it to class on time, the notes I took on my spontaneous notepaper were instrumental in helping me study for, and pass, my mid-term exam.

Lesson learned? The power of the written word…and a clean paper plate!

In this age of digital communication and inundation, messages can get lost. Email inboxes are overflowing (with unread and spam messages), yet physical mailboxes are about a third less full than 10 years ago. That presents a great opportunity to stand out with direct marketing, especially in the education sector.

Here are a few ways school districts and higher ed institutions can use PSMailers pressure-seal equipment and self-mailer documents – and the power of the printed word – to connect with students, staff and donors in these pandemic times.

  • Provide health & safety tips. The Mrs. and I felt good about taking our daughter back to campus because we knew the school was taking extra steps to ensure her health and safety. The high-volume PSM10k folder/sealer system is perfect for large universities and school districts to communicate their comprehensive safety plan, personal health tips, and updates to students and families to resume on-campus activities, safety assurances.
  • Enhance development and advancement efforts. With social distancing guidelines still in place and traditional, face-to-face outreach opportunities limited in these COVID-19 times, targeted direct mail is becoming a key component of educational institution fundraising and recruitment efforts. PSMailers can easily prepare materials needed for online auction events – mailers leading up to the event to boost participation, feature auction items, and provide bidding instructions, as well as thank-you notes to donors.
  • Communicate critical campus information. Student support services are a big part of campus life. The smaller volume PSM3000, which handles up to 3,000 pieces an hour, is great for processing a printed guide to hours of operation for offices, libraries, rec centers, food court and cafeterias, and bus schedules, just to name a few.
  • Boost school spirit with bookstore and yearbook promotions. Everyone likes getting mail…even tech-savvy Gen Y and Z students! Schools can use PSMailers to help promote bookstore promotions with printed coupons and coupon scan codes, as well as solicit yearbook sales with direct marketing that stand out in the mail.

These times are challenging, but everyone is adapting and adjusting as needed to work through the issues and opportunities of this shared pandemic experience. PSMailers is here to help businesses and organizations explore new and effective ways to communicate with their customers and target audiences. The power of the printed word has never been more powerful.

3 things to love about marriage – and PSMailers

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Mon, Jun 15, 2020 @ 14:06 PM

3thingsPSMBlog

I have only been married once, so I’m no expert on weddings. But I do know that we have officially entered wedding season, a time to reflect on the importance of this lifelong ball and chain, I mean, loving bond (oops…looks like my spellcheck needs a tune-up).

Marriage can be a real lifesaver (literally) for guys like me – much like PSMailers pressure sealer systems. Hear me out…

  1. You’ll be happier. Research has shown that married men have a lower risk of depression and a higher likelihood of satisfaction with life in retirement than unmarried men.

Likewise, owners of PSMailers systems will readily admit they are happier with the process of printing, folding and sealing mailers than those without these mighty machines. PSMailers systems bring joy to completing a typically tedious, time-consuming task in offices of all sizes and industries, from school districts and higher ed institutions to medical facilities, and more.

  1. You’ll be healthier. Nearly 150 years of studies confirm that married men are healthier than unmarried men. Being hitched has been linked to better brain function, reduced risk of Alzheimer's, and improved blood sugar levels, to name a few.

Anyone who has experienced the stress of processing payroll, accounting, grade reports, and direct mail under tight deadlines knows how stressful it can be. Stress can lead to high blood pressure, lack of sleep, and, if you’re like me, late night binge eating. From low volume to high capacity models, there’s a PSMailers system available to increase productivity and decrease stress.

  1. You’ll live longer! According to a recent study, married men had a 46 percent lower rate of death than unmarried men. What’s more, the longer a man stays married, the greater his survival advantage over his unmarried peers. I say, viva la marriage!

And viva la PSMailers! Because processing hundreds and thousands of mailings the old-fashioned way will surely take years off your life. On the other hand, the PSM10K can process up to 10,000 sheets per hour, freeing up hours in your day – and years in your life.

In all the years I’ve been married, I have found that nothing says “I love you” more than watching a marathon of “Say Yes to the Dress” with your wife on a Saturday night. And nothing says “I love saving time, money and headaches” more than a PSMailers system. Find your perfect match here.

Self-sealed with a kiss –

Death, taxes and PSMailers

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Fri, Jan 17, 2020 @ 09:01 AM

2020-Blog.-Janr

What would you do to secure a future of no taxes? Quit your job? Tempting, but probably not practical (unless you’re retired). Move abroad? Also tempting. But be wary – many countries have higher tax rates than the U.S.! Or perhaps you would be willing to get an “IRS” tattoo in exchange for a life without taxes? Believe it or not, that option appealed to nearly one in four American taxpayers surveyed.

Of course, this is merely an exercise in futility because as we are all painfully aware, thanks to Ben Franklin, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

I’d like to think, however, that there is one other certainty in life: the versatility and reliability of PSMailers systems.

The burden of printing, folding, and sealing tax documents during tax season places a big demand on businesses. PSMailers machines, from the low volume PSM1800 to the mighty PSM10K, can ease the pain of the tax season crunch.

Need a different fold style? That’s easy. PSMailers documents are available in six fold styles to accommodate your needs. To switch fold styles, simply adjust the fold plate and begin to seal!

Questions? No problem. PSMailers Customer Service and Tech team is available to answer all of your questions and help you resolve any issues you might be experiencing. Our team of experts know PSMailers systems inside and out and can have you up and running in no time. You can reach them at 800-464-5030 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, or email support@psmailers.com.

Best of all, we will never ask you to get a “PSMailers” tattoo. Unless you really want one. Then who are we to stop you?

Yours in death, taxes and PSMailers,

PSMailers Guy

The Gift That Gives Back (and will never break your heart)

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Wed, Nov 6, 2019 @ 10:11 AM

W-TheGift_that_givesBlog

With the cooler weather nipping at our noses and toes-es this time of year, it serves as a brisk reminder that the magical gift-giving season is near. Every now and then, however, it stirs up one particular memory from my subconscious that breaks my heart all over again…

It was a crisp Friday evening in mid-December (which also happened to be my 17th birthday). I picked up my girlfriend in the wood paneled station wagon dad let me borrow on occasion, a light dusting of twinkling snowflakes falling around us. Imagine my delight when I saw that she came bearing a colorful gift-wrapped box! Never mind that it served as both a birthday AND Christmas gift (I had grown used to that as a kid), I happily unwrapped the gift and found the softest flannel shirt in shades of blue and black plaid that she had clearly chosen with great love and care to match my eyes. She said she liked the feel of flannel. And I liked the way she made me feel. The following Monday, I wore my new shirt to school with a warm confidence and pride knowing that my girl had given it to me. That night, she called me on the phone and broke up with me.

In sharing this memory of teenage heartache with you, I hope to inspire your gift-giving choices for the office this year. Consider, for example, PSMailers systems. They are the perfect gift for the hard-working staff in any office, from education and health care providers to non-profit and government agencies.

PSMailers are available in a wide range of sizes and capacities – from a small-volume capacity of 1,800 sheets/hour up to 10,000 sheets/hour – designed to fold and seal many different document styles and sizes.

Forget the fruitcake. A PSMailers system will be the best gift anyone can ever give at the office. And with PSMailers Support, you know we’ll always be there for you, and we’ll never break your heart.

Don’t worry, I’m not bitter. I never wore that shirt again, and I eventually got over the girlfriend. But when I began dating the gal who would later become Mrs. PSMailers guy, I made her promise she would never give me a flannel shirt.

Happy holiday shopping!

Lunch Box Nostalgia Meets PSMailers

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Fri, Sep 6, 2019 @ 10:09 AM

LunchBoxPsMailersBloggraph

Take a journey with me back a few decades. Back to a time when you didn’t wear seatbelts in the family station wagon, you made book covers for school textbooks out of brown grocery bags, and the only good thing about back-to-school time was choosing your new lunch box for the year. You know, those metal ones with the snap lock and plastic handle featuring your favorite pop culture character from TV, cartoons, movies or music.

Your choice of lunch box said a lot about you. It was a reflection of who you were, who you aspired to be, and where you stood on the scale of adolescent coolness. My selection of lunch boxes took quite the cultural journey as I matured – from the wholesomeness of Gunsmoke, Snoopy and The Captain and Tennille to the pre-pubescent rebelliousness of KISS.

Now that school is underway again this fall, I look upon those metal box memories and can’t help but think of PSMailers machines (it’s what I do).

School lunch boxes served a remarkable utilitarian purpose (keeping your bologna sandwich and HoHos safe) and were available in a wide variety of designs to meet the discerning needs of its users. Much like PSMailers.

School districts and educational organizations rely on efficient, cost-effective solutions to communicate with students, parents and families throughout the year.  With PSMailers, printing, folding, sealing and addressing communication all in one system is a real time and money saver for schools that operate on limited resources today.

PSMailer systems are available in a wide range of sizes and capacities – from a small-volume capacity of 1,800 sheets/hour up to 10,000 sheets/hour – meeting the volume needs of school sites and districts of any size. They can be used to send grade reports, athletic department information, fundraising announcements, payroll, and anything that needs to be printed and mailed efficiently.

While metal lunch boxes have succumbed to thermal bags and Lunchables, their worth (much like PSMailers) is exceedingly high. According to Allen Woodall Jr., owner of the Lunch Box Museum in Columbus, Georgia (I’m not kidding), some of the early lunch boxes can fetch over $10,000 today.

Makes me wish I had held on to the Captain and Tennille a little longer. But not to worry…I have a thermos of warm Spaghettios waiting to console me.

All the best in back-to-school,

PSMailers Guy

PSMailers: A Simple Question of "Would you rather...?"

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Tue, Jun 18, 2019 @ 09:06 AM

W-wouldyourather-blog

There’s a favorite ice breaker/conversation starter game called “Would you rather…” that posits a choice between two options. Sometimes they are thought provoking or enticing, but often both are dreadful or cringe worthy. For example:

  • Would you rather it never stops snowing or never stops raining?
  • Would you rather eat a box of dry spaghetti noodles or two cups of uncooked rice?
  • Would you rather have hands that kept growing as you got older or feet that kept growing as you got older?

That last got me thinking about the beauty of PSMailers. If your hands kept growing, it would be nearly impossible to fold, stuff, address and mail a bunch of envelopes by hand! But with a PSMailers pressure-seal machine, you could fulfill any mailing project or campaign quickly and easily regardless of how big your hands (or feet) were.

PSMailers systems do all that hand work for you – folding and sealing documents from short runs to 10,000 self-sealed documents per hour.  That frees up a lot of time for other important tasks in the office – and frees you up for more free time this summer. Which brings me to my own PSMailers “Would you rather…?“ questions:

  • Would you rather stuff a bunch of mailing envelopes or stuff your face with burgers, dogs, corn on the cob, and watermelon at a backyard barbecue?
  • Would you rather lick a thousand stamps at your desk or a thousand popsicles by the pool this summer?
  • Would you rather ride 10,000 roller coasters in one hour or print, fold and seal 10,000 mailers in one hour?

Gets you thinking, doesn’t it? There are much better ways to spend your summer than chained to the office trying to get printed materials out the door. Browse the rest of the PSMailers website to learn more.

I wish you a happy summer filled with swimming, hiking, reading, napping, whatever you like to do. You’ve earned it!

Time to grow your business like spring chickens.

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Tue, Mar 26, 2019 @ 14:03 PM

W-BLOG-springChicken

In the natural world, spring is synonymous with new life and growth. In the chaotic world known as my household, it meant adopting a baby chick last year. She’s so cute, they squealed. We’ll take care of her, they promised. Just this one time, pleaded Mrs. PSMailers Guy. What could go wrong, I wondered?

I’m no spring chicken, but I know that baby chicks don’t stay little for very long. Within a mere 4-6 months, those fluffy foul become full-grown, egg-laying chickens. A hen can lay more than 300 eggs per year. And if that isn’t enough to keep you up ‘til the rooster crows, the waste made by a chicken in its lifetime can make enough electricity to run a 100-watt bulb for five hours!

Now before you think I suffer from a severe case of Alektorophobia (fear of chickens), let me explain what this fine-feathered experience has to do with PSMailers. As the flora and fauna around us spring to life this season, it can inspire us to grow our business in new ways. PSMailers pressure seal mailers are a sure way to get direct mail out faster and more efficiently. Like chickens, every day is an opportunity to hatch a new market for PSMailers documents:

  • Accounts Payable Check Printing
  • Other Check Printing
  • Applications
  • Invoices
  • Statements
  • Delinquent Notices
  • Customer Letters
  • Notices Refunds or Rebates
  • Purchase Orders
  • Report Cards
  • Tax Forms
  • Reports/Newsletters
  • Dividend/Interest Notices
  • Promotions
  • Benefits Mailings
  • License Applications
  • Renewals
  • Subscriptions
  • Reservation Confirmations
  • Utility Bills
  • And more!

For more eggs-cellent application ideas and information on PSMailers Systems, browse the rest of the site here at psmailers.com. Need support call us at 800-464-5030.

If you’re wondering what became of our baby chick....rather than enjoying a fresh egg every day, we now get a daily, crack of dawn reminder that she is a he.

Love ‘em like they’re Tom Brady

Posted by PSMailers Guy on Mon, Feb 11, 2019 @ 09:02 AM

W-BLOG-LOVE'EM-LIKEBRADY

Every year, the passing of Super Bowl Sunday brings my attention to love. Primarily, how much Mrs. PSMailers Guy loves Tom Brady. But it also serves as a timely reminder of that looming holiday of love, Valentine’s Day. Like Brady’s sixth Super Bowl ring, many objects have served as a symbol of love throughout history and culture. For example:

• In addition to being considered good luck, a four-leaf clover is also part of a love ritual in some parts of Ireland. If a woman eats a four-leaf clover while thinking about a man, supposedly he will fall in love with her.

• The maple leaf is a symbol of love in China and Japan; and in North America, it was often engraved on beds of early settlers to promote peaceful sleep and pleasure.

• Historically, sweat has been an active ingredient in perfume and love potions.

That last example makes me break out into a sweat. But it brings me to the object of my desire: PSMailers.

What’s not to love? PSMailers pressure sealer systems are available in a wide range of sizes, capacities and capabilities to fit any size or type of business, including accounting and legal firms, healthcare facilities and more. They deliver a complete solution for saving time, money and resources. Check out the small, but mighty PSM1800, the affordable, productive PSM3000, the value-added PSM5000, and the high-volume PSM10K.

PSMailers self-mailer documents make my heart skip a beat, too. With nearly 50 document styles to choose from, letter- and legal-size PSMailers documents can help you do everything you need to do better and smarter – from payroll, and accounts payable to direct mail, report cards, and more. PSMailers documents are available in six fold styles to best fit any application–C fold, Z fold, V fold, EZ fold, EC fold, ZX fold. Plus they’re ready to ship from a facility near you, in-stock or custom imprinted to your needs.

Scientists have claimed that most people will fall in love approximately seven times before getting married. With all the PSMailers machine and documents options available today, one could fall in love enough times to astound even the most seasoned researcher.

Cheers to Love, PSMailers…and buckets of sweat!

Calling all Happy Taxpayers

Calling-all-Happy-Taxpayers-Blog

In 2017, the U.S. government hauled in $3.32 trillion dollars in income taxes. Those kind of numbers can make your head swim. Even more astounding, however, is this little data nugget: only 51 percent of Americans say that the amount of federal income tax they paid in 2017 was too high. Obviously, they didn’t survey me.

With nearly half the U.S. taxpayers all too happy to hand over their hard earned money to the federal government, it’s only fitting to post this friendly PSMailers reminder checklist on how to gear up for the new tax season:

 Are you ready to meet the looming W2 tax forms mailing deadline?

 Is the PSMailers machine tuned up?

 Are you stocked up on the right forms?

 Do you have the right fold design(s)?

 Have you conducted a test run before running an entire batch?

If you can’t answer “yes” to all of the above questions, we’ve got your back. Our top-notch Customer Service and Tech Team is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST to answer all of your questions and help you resolve any issues you might be experiencing. Our team of experts know PSMailers systems inside and out, and can have you up and running in no time.

In addition to our Customer Service support, you can find all kinds of great info on PSMailers equipment and other products by calling our toll-free number: 800.464.5030 or click here

Free and easy…which is more than you can say about the ever-changing tax code.
